Television Casting Notice - Alaskan Pilots

Got this email the other day. I don't have any spoiled brats trying to get to hollywood and also don't want anyone recording all the overloaded bootleg IFR flying I do in unknown icing conditions  I figured I'd just pass it along and was also wondering if it's legit? I noticed the producer wasn't named. Anybody else get this?

The leader in production of outdoor adventure television programming is now casting for bush pilots in Alaska for a potential new television series.

This docu-reality series will follow three bush pilots throughout Alaska as they transport hunters, fisherman, prospectors, and adventurers to secluded locations, deliver supplies to off the grid survivalists, assist remote construction companies with hauling in materials, and aid in the search for missing outdoorsmen.

We are looking for dynamic pilots with big personalities--lots of heart, stories and laughs to share, and experience taking off and landing on lakes, rivers, dirt strips, and dry riverbeds that are all in a day's work for Alaskan bush pilots. The best characters will be able to tell viewers about the perils of flying in remote and wild Alaska but will also live the Alaska lifestyle in their off hours--hunting, fishing, trapping, prospecting, etc.

Types of pilots and situations that we’d be interested in hearing from are:

* A multi-generational bush pilot operation--old pilot and a bold pilot.

* A young pilot new to the Alaskan back country but who is fulfilling a lifelong dream to fly in the frontier.

* A seasoned veteran who’s seen it all and done it all!

* Clean safety record is a requirement.

* And sense of humor is a must along with the ability to tell great stories of the signature Alaskan existence!

Casting is open to both men and women, young and old. Please send the following information to casting.representative (at gmail dot com)

Name

Email and Phone

Website (if applicable)

Brief bio/history of company

Please describe your most ‘memorable’ take off and/or landing – either harrowing or humorous

Why you should be selected for this project

Please include 2-3 photos and links to any video

If you have any question, please send them to casting.representative (at gmail dot com)

What a novel idea for a TV show.....

I guess I'm not on the right email list.

Re: Television Casting Notice - Alaskan Pilots

Any of you legit AK guys and gals out there who might be interested in this blockbuster... I'd recommend sending them an e-mail saying " Please send your real contact phone number if you want real people to contact you. I'm an Alaska pilot with ___ hours and ___ years of experience, and I do have the type of experience you are seeking. Not interested in suffering fools or wasting time with phantom e-mails, which probably makes me just the kind of no-BS frontier character you're looking for."

In general, if someone is a legitimate producer with a legitimate company, they are proud to drop their own name and affiliations, and they will not need to hide behind a gmail account. A legitimate advertisement would look more like this:

"Blue Fertilizer Productions is casting for a new reality show (or Season 3 of XYZ show) about Alaska bush pilots..... ..... contact Joe Blow 310-555-1212 or e-mail [email protected] "

I was of course joking in my original posting, that stuff never happens in Alaska. The real problem with flying around here is that 95% of the time, it's as fun as watching paint dry, and then waiting for it to peel. So the TV producers inject all this ridiculous drama and make the pilots look like incompetent jackasses. Then an FAA inspector hoping for a promotion watches an episode of this "death-defying" drama and starts an investigation. Makes for good entertainment though...

I like this line best:
We are looking for dynamic pilots with big personalities--

I would think this may be a tough call to find one lacking the ego. The ones that stick out in memory have the qualities, but seem to have lacked the flight time.
