Temperance Creek

I was chatting with the operator/outfitter of Temperance Creek, Brice Barnes, a few days ago and he informed me that it is open for business. They have a full time caretaker who will provide breakfast if you call in advance. The Forest Service has asked them to limit landings to planes using the services of the Lodge. They also have cabins for rent. It is a pretty cool spot on the Snake with a fairly benign approach and strip as far as Snake River canyon strips go.

Website is http://www.hellscanyonpackers.com and the the contact number for reservations is 1-208-746-1412.

Re: Temperance Creek

Just flew into Temperance Creek yesterday and talked with Shelly & Lyle. They are in the process of getting their website so you can contact Shelly directly to let her know when you're coming in there, but in the meantime she asked me to tell folks to email her directly at [email protected] and let her know when you're coming in. And like other places, advanced notice is very much appreciated. Both Shelly & Lyle are good folks to be around and trust me, Shelly knows how to cook! There is no windsock at Temperance Creek, but you can look directly across the Snake River at the Big Bar sock and get a good idea what the winds are doing. The elk have the airstrip mowed down to a long 1/4", so it's in great shape. And like IdahoMaule said, they have cabins available also.

Re: Temperance Creek

Isn't the Forest Service in charge of the damn trees? It just rubs me the wrong way when non-pilot government employees suggest when and how we should use a runway. Something wrong with the rules as they stand.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.
