Terrorist flying J3 cub

Here's one we'll all be interrested in. I usually watch a show called "The Unit" Every week. It's based loosely on delta force activities..THis week the add for the show is showing a J3 cub with some sort of cylindar attached to the struts in an apparent terrorist attack. Another shot on the teazer shows another aircraft bumping the cubs wings and then both planes spinning down. I shudder to think of all the ill informed and naive public out there who will watch this crap and think all little planes are potential terrorist weapons. I will watch the show and not prejudge it now but the premise that a J3 which can hardly carry more than two people would be used by terrorists is absurd to say the least. Typical hollywood bull shit.

I saw this too. I really like the show, but you hate to see Hollywood being Hollywood. But like you said, the worst part is that the general public believe what they see from Hollywood as being reality.

And they will probably use the "... all wood and cloth so it does not show up on radar ... " angle as well.

I used to watch the show but the inconsistencies with real life turned me off.

yeah, they couldn't show a real threat, like say a car bomb...in a hybrid. Not only an explosion but think of all that toxic battery junk everywhere.

And a J-3 of all things! Can anyone think of a less threatening looking plane? You'd think They'd have used something bigger and sexier, like a Navajo or Twin Commanchee.

At least something that can't be brought down by a few 12 gauge loads. :P

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

C'mon guys! Anyone who's seen Goldfinger knows that a gaggle of PA-28s (aka "Pussy Galore's Flying Circus") can take out the garrison at Fort Knox. :) What worse, though, is just how much awful noise those airplanes must make and how they disturb the surrounding community. :-$

Well we have seen the terrorist cub. Those J3's are tough. And who would have thought..... A cub with auto pilot!!!! Those hollywood guys are great aren't they. After getting bumped in the air 3 or four times and changing course on it's own with a dead pilot at the stick they finally devised a ram and recover from spin for the hero pilot following the killer Cub. I loved the reason the Jet jockies weren't able to fire on it. "It's just too slow for them..." or some such bullshit. And that takeoff. Engine running, inside the hangar and door opens and out taxis the fierce J3. I wonder if they got that from the old Maule picture of one taking off out of the hangar.

ice,
Several years ago a German kid flew a 172 into USSR and I think even landed near Red square? I attended a classified briefing on that and there is something to be said for being low and slow.

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

I was flipping through the channels, and saw a J3 pop out of a hanger, so I stayed. I started laughing when he said it was cruising at 100mph, and had an autopilot. But it was on tv so it MUST be true

It's called "The Unit" and is on Tues nights I think on CBS. It started out pretty good but lately has gotten a little hard to go along with. I mean there's an awful lot of automatic weapon firing and not a lot of hitting what you shoot at. Well let me qualify that.. THe unit guys hit everything they shoot at and the bad guys spray the area heavily and never hit anything but cars and dirt. This last one with the cub was the laugher of the year though, and the charachters in the Unit are really starting to act like assholes. Oh well, HOLLYWOOD!

I know I remember when it happened. I even remembered his name, but whats that got to do with this idiot tv episode. I know he evaded radar and where he landed. If you saw the show you know how rediculous the whole thing was.

Nothing, except for the fact that it is harder than you might think for a "fast mover" to get a gun run on a slow moving target. The USMC, being the only branch that has both attack helicopters and fixed wing aircraft is the only ones that has done any real testing. The helicopter, while obviously being on the defensive is far from being the sitting duck that most people would have thought.
The point being that there is some merit to a small light plane being so slow that it is hard to intercept, I didn't see the show.
