Texas Skywagon Roundup 5-7 April 2013

How about a Skywagon Roundup in the Spring... in Texas?

The Eagle Flying Museum will host the Roundup 5-6 April 2013 at the Mineral Wells Airport. For more info or suggestions check it out on the home page or:
http://eagleflyingmuseum.org/index-12Ev ... gonRoundup

Disclaimer... you don't have to have a Skywagon to some... Cubs are welcome and the Museum even has Stearmans and Texans. Just come on out (activity suggestions are welcome).

I'm glad to see other types invited. This is what makes BCP the great place it is. None type specific. All about get out of the city and off black top. It is the people not what they fly that makes BCP great.

Cheers...Rob

Rob-

You bet.... the real reason is to have a 'good' excuse to fly... all are welcome! Wouldn't it be cool to see a Kodiak there? Are you coming?

I can't lock in yet. It is possible. I have always wanted to visit the great state of Texas. New Mexico is as close as I've been.

I'll be in socal with the family Spring Break. Get back to Oregon March 31 So maybe.

Cheers...Rob

Bighorn-

Humm, you have an idea... of course it wound't be fair not to offer the chance to everyone that comes.... maybe we can auction off a ride in the Stearman and the T-6.... that might be a cool idea!

Looks like weather is going to be good, with just a little wind. Planning on being there Saturday morning for the day. Looking forward to meeting more of the Texas Skywagon crew :D

Gunny:

Sure sounds like a good time. I would have liked to represent the NM 180 crowd (there are a few of us) and crash the party, but work won't let me leave this weekend.

Have fun and post lots of pictures!!

Hope you TX guys consider flying up in the fall and joining us for the Negrito Flyin. Beatiful spot in the Gila with good food and company. Last year we did have a 180 that popped in from the Dallas area. Will be happening around the end of Sept.

I will see you all in the morning (Saturday), just wished the rain had washed all the concrete away. Oh well, guess I can squeal one on just this once.

The TAF says 19 gust 27. How does a 180 do in that amount of wind? I'm curious because I have one and I'm about to move to Abilene. But I don't have enough experience in that amount of wind to be comfortable in it.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Sounds like fun and I wish I could attend.

Re: Texas Skywagon Roundup 5-7 April 2013

19 gusting to 27 is just a regular, windy day here in Texas. Most of our runways are orientated to deal with this. I imagine our Alaska compadres, when they step out into this, they look at each other and go "Do you feel that? I thought I felt a little breeze. Do you think the wind might kick up today?".

Today will be my first time to see Mineral Wells. Looking at the airport map I see two runways, plus notes to land on the taxiway if it's crosswindy. Heck I'd do that anyway, with or without a note.

Taxiing in these winds is the most annoying problem I have with them. That big sail at the back of the 185 makes it a chore. You'd think the locking tailwheel would help, but it doesn't. Sometimes I just say "screw it" and go crosscountry to the runway, or the tie down area.

Let us know when you get to Abilene so we can come say "Howdy".
