Headed from ABI in west Texas to Missoula Mt. Leaving ABI on the 19th and need to get to MSO by the 23rd. Gives me about 4 days to get there. Thinking of spending a night at Mineral Canyon Utah and stopping by a few spots in Idaho for a night or two. Flying a 180.

Anybody got any good ideas for me or places I should check out? Thanks!

Shearer and Moose Creek Airstrip are easily accessible from the Bitterroot Valley (just south of Missoula). They are incredible strips, and actually within an hour from your final destination. You would probably have Shearer to yourself. Just flew to Moose Creek yesterday morning from Stevensville, Mt. It is absolutely gorgeous this time of year. The pacer that flipped over several weeks ago is still there, but should be gone by the weekend.

My buddy and I are headed up that way from the panhandle next month. Just 2 huskies bouncing around Idaho and maybe a little of Montana. let me know if you find anything worth sharing. I drove up last year and fished the Salmon with the family. Going back again this year. Place is gorgeous. Next month's trip is more of a flying adventure. Would appreciate any thoughts on your trip as an AAR.

Mineral Canyon is a nice strip but I would personally choose a different strip if I was going for the backcountry feel. A lot of jeep, ATV, and mountain bike traffic. Mexican Mountain is quieter and less traveled. Cedar Mountain sits on top of a solitary bluff that would be incredible at night. For a truly solitary overnight you can gas up at Mack Mesa and head about 30 miles N.W. to Willow Flats on top of the Bookcliffs. Long, wide, smooth grass strip in the middle of nowhere. Has a great camp site in the pines across from the intersection of the 2 strips.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out Cedar Mountain, and Mexican Mountain looks like a great spot. The reported length is less than I've landed on before so we'll see how comfortable I am at Mineral Canyon before going to Mexican Mountain.

69V in Huntington has good airnav reviews so I'll probably stop there for gas and maybe a shower.
