That looks intriguing, have to check with the boss etc. to see if I'm allowed to be intrigued on a family holiday. I had heard the resort was going to be seasonally closed this winter. Have you heard anything that way Gary?

We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. Gary & Flight :
I may go to Los Angeles or San Diego -or just do McDonalds --- wife and daughter are going to Tuscon --
may fly down there for day. Won't be the first Thanksgiving without family (unless I go to So-Cal) or last .
I can only go for early to late because of animals that need there chow etc.
Christmas will be with family as it should be.

Sounds pretty nice, Gary ... but I'm flying with The Boss to Fort Hood,TX to visit daughter and hubby. First time we'll see'em since they got back stateside from SoKo (son-in-law is a Blackhawk driver ... prepping Army aviation companies for their deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, practicing dusty landings, low altitude ops and insertions, etc.)

So they're open on selected weekends in the winter?

Maybe we can get a group of New Mexico pilots up there on a nice winter weekend for skiing, drinking, and flying into Telluride when the DA isn't like 12,000 feet.

Let me talk to Larry about it, he's an old Grand Junction hand, and he loves going up to CO. Maybe we can get a group going there, maybe pre-Christmas? You up for that?

Hey Duane
Better re-read my last post
Probably not up for the skiing or T-ride, but the flyin/drinkin sounds good.
This time of year will just be a day trip for me.

Tim, that is the truck stop. Last xmas one of my neighbors who was getting divorced and I went to Flying J for dinner. It was actually a great Buffet. I used to cook Turkey on Thanksgiving for my single friends and my family. I had two friends die this year (no it wasn't from my cooking) and my two daughters moved away. My wife left last year too so I figured I would try the Flying J for Thanksgiving with my brother. Could be worse.

My first Thanksgiving diner on the road as a new-be trucker was way back in 1986 (Damn  , I'm getting old :( ), I stopped at the 76 Truck Stop (now the T/A) off of I-80 at the Tooele, UT exit.

Hey!..Don't knock all truckstop cafe's..there are some good ones out there two..and they DO put on a good turkey feed for Turkey Day. Grandma Max's at Big Springs NE is the first that comes to mind..and I know there are others. We will probably stop there next Wed on our way to MN for breakfast. Would love to come west to Gateway but family Thanksgiving is a real priority for us. Thanks for the thought Gary..on of these days I WILL make it over the mountains again.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of the BCP'ers and their loved ones!!

Here's a few I'd recommend:

Iowa 80 off of I-80 and exit 284 in Iowa (http://iowa80truckstop.com/)

Jubitz in Portland, OR (http://www.jubitz.com/)

The Boise Stage Stop (east of Boise, ID on I-84) (http://www.sinclairoil.com/boise-stage-stop/index.htm)
