Did a report on this accident the KLM pilot was there chief pilot. Came down to him not listening to crew concerns and them not confident to express them in a authoritative manner. It was this crash that lead to the end of "the Captain is king" mentality.

Correction: It was this crash that was supposed to lead to the end of "the Captain is king" mentality. There are still some out there #-o .

Unfortunately, the pendulum on Captains authority in many regards has swung too far to the other extreme in many other facets of Captains authority. In regard to the need for CRM, though, it definitely brought it to light. Terrible tragedy.

I concur grass pilot. There was a Korean Air crash were the co pilot did not listen to the Captain threw Throttles anyway and they overran. Someone needs to be in charge but it is important that when there is time and not unsafe to do so that everyone's concerns are addressed. In the case of KLM there was no reason not to verify reverify.
