FAA Weather Camera Program Expansion: Suggestions Accepted
Notice Number: NOTC2755

The FAA Weather Cameras have proven to be a valuable resource in preflight planning and in-flight decision making and have had a significant impact in reducing weather related accident and flight disruption. The program is in the process of planning the expansion of the program into more states.

If you have an opinion on where weather cameras could be placed to aid in your flight operations, you can:

Re: The FAA is soliciting suggestions for siting weather cam

If you haven’t used Weather Cameras, you probably haven’t flown in Alaska.

But, fortunately, this program is now coming to the Lower 48. The States of Colorado and Montana Aeronautics Division have been installing cameras in those two states, and there are more to come.

Take a look at the various cameras at: https://weathercams.faa.gov/. And visualize how valuable that information could be to YOUR flying.

These are relatively inexpensive (compared to “approved” weather sensors like ASOS) sources of weather data. And consider what our brains are trying to accomplish as we read a METAR or other digital weather product: We’re trying to visualize an image of what that weather actually looks like. The Weather cams cut to the chase, making that process a lot easier.

So, look at this system, and provide some suggestions on locations where these cameras would be useful.

Just sent in comment for Stampede Pass. Definitely needed there for years.
The weather station helps but a camera would be even better.
