Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Don't they put TFR's around political candidates? Wonder who decides who get's a TFR and who doesn't?

Yesterday I could be heard on center saying no F*#^ing way as they were trying to vector me 20 miles around a what they called an expanded TFR

I then canceled squawked 1200 and Ill wait for the letter. There is no mention of the controlling party to expand it an extra 5 miles.

I think if AOPA doesn't quit trying to bitch about UMA were going to be TFR to death.

TFR for candidates

You can bet your Sweet A** that there will be TFR's all over the place between now and Nov.4th.

I really look forward to Palin's fund raiser TFR which will probably coincide with a Seahawk or Husky football game which will effectively cut all North South traffic between the Cascades and Puget Sound.

We had a similar when HM. Chaney had a fund raiser at the same house in 2004. We had a ceiling that day that required VFR to divert over the sound and then get back to the East side before running into the core of the SEA Class B.

The poor GA guys will be burning $5.50+/gal fuel to keep these politicos
( both parties ) "safe" while they sell the general public down the river for campaign contributions.

I am really beginning to like the Canadian system. Announce and election and eight weeks later it is all over. I am getting really burned out with all this.

I don't understand how a TFR protects anyone. Do they think a bad guy won't bust a TFR, or do they think they would get enough notice to do anything if one did?
Reminds me of making "hate" crimes different from other crimes or good thing drugs are illegal or we would have a drug problem huh? Or the country would be full of "undocumented" folks if it weren't illegal.
I'm not on a rant, and don't want this in Hot Air, but seriously, what is a TFR supposed to prevent when it's imposed for political rallies and sports gatherings and the like? How does it protect? Now if there are unusual air activities like UAV's or military ranges etc. etc. that's obvious, but I don't see how a TFR will deter a suicidal Jihadist. How long does it take an ailiner to cover half the distance of a TFR?

Just another example of damned if you do damned if you don't CYA political decisions. Nobody wins everybody loses especially the GA pilot who is confronted with the absurd.
Are mobile ground to air missile staged to combat Executive TFR infringement? If no then it is an exercise in futility strictly for the sake of following some security process that is part of a bureaucratic checklist. Who knows?

TFRs show the "bad guys" where the politician is.

"He's in the TFR circle during this time of the day." Stupid.

I don't and won't have the experience, but if a GA pilot enters a TFR, he or she will be looking at a fine piece of military aircraft off the wing tip. Probably happens real quick.

Lets hope the response has improved since 911 but being a doubting Thomas I tend to think more than half the country has been lulled asleep including our defense. It was not much more than a year or so ago that nukes were shipped to a foreign country and were flown across the country without authorization.
Of course your 90 year old grandmother will be stripped searched before getting on an airliner. But I do hope you are correct and I am wrong!

I'm not sure what the rule is on candidates for office. I know she was home this week and there were no TFR's around her.

Wife and I went with another couple. Turned out pretty good, huge crowd. Palen did well as did the various political types (in assending order) who spoke before she and her family arrived.

Only screw up was the overreacting to crowd control by the Carson City Sheriff dept after the event. They stopped all pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the main drag past the place and made everyone wait to leave until Palens motorcade departed some 30 minutes later. They should have allowed people to depart, stopping all traffic only when Palen was ready to depart. As an ex-cop, I thought this was really a stupic command decision on their part.

You are using the "English" spelling there -- its Palin. Glad she did well in Nevada

The Governor and her family were in Wasilla a couple of days ago staying at their home on Lake Lucille where they keep their Super Cub. This is about eight miles from our Palmer home, so I flew over for a look. As it turns out there was no TFR that I was aware of, but the Coast Guard was patrolling the lake from a Zodiak. There should be a picture with this link.

I think that she's gonna be Nevada's best vaccine against "Mad Cowboy Disease". Go Palen........

They used to say there are no old bold pilots, hell, looka here........

Track My Spot

When she was first selected, I immediately thought, "Ugh oh, There goes the TFR circus in the PAMR segment here". I was pleasantly surprised that when she was here late last week, there was no TFR even after she flew into ANC from Fairbanks. Hope it lasts. A TFR for Wasilla would wipe out all general aviation in Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla, etc as they are all within 30 miles of each other.

VIP TFR

The Cheney TFRs are very small compared to the Presidential TFRs.

There is a permanent TFR at Cheney's MD home.

Well, I imagine a permanent one near Sarah's home would go over like a pregnant elephant leaping off a building around here. I probably fly over her home or near by more often than not when I depart to the north or buzz around the Matanuska/Susitna valley area. Hmmmmm.... that would really bite. Course the enforcment forces are close by and right next to Merrill Field at Elmendorf AFB. They regularly encroach on our practice areas with their fast movers......what a pain....

TFR

Cheney's TFR is only a 1 mile radius and 1,500 ft AGL. The one in Wyoming is not permanent, so the one in Wasilla would only be there when she is there.

A permanent Obama TFR would suck more.... no matter where it is.
