The good old days

I was cleaning out my desk and ran across this photo. It's me flying over White Lake in a Fledge 2B with a Rotax 447. You want short field performance this is it. Even with no brakes other than the Fred Flintstone Model One, it can stop in less than 50 feet. It shares the same glide ratio as a balled up news paper and cruises about 40 mph.

Where do you carry the beer? Or at least the pic-a-nic basket?

White Lake is the dry lake-it used to be dry all the time-in Cold Springs. We used to keep our ul's in the old Reno Park building before Reno Truss got it. Looks like a Quicksilver you're flying. I have some time in a Condor and a whole bunch of time in a Mirage on floats. I still have the whole setup in the hanger at N86. It is Cuyuna 430 powered with a ballistic chute. We used to fly from N86 to the R/C field in Hungry Valley, land and turn around and come back. Or fly to the truck stop in Fernley, land in the parking lot,get the 5 egg breakfast and chase deer on the way home. Way less than $100 then.

Umm...in your stomach, duh. Some people claim you would have to be drunk to fly an ultralight, but I love it. You can stuff light items like sleeping bags inside the wings at the root. Usually best though to just have somebody meet you at your destination with your gear.
