The legacy of Shaun Lunt

Last week marked 6 years since the loss of Super Cub pilot and photographer Shaun Lunt. He perished in a crash up in Alaska on June 6, 2008, and we lost an epic human being and creative powerhouse. I know his dad Norm sometimes visits BCP, I hope he still does and that he and Margie are doing well.

If you're unfamiliar, sit down and take the time to go through these blog posts and take in the amazing photography of Alaska from someone who knew what they were doing with a camera. In my opinion, it is the single most inspiring pilot blog on the entire Internet. The blog has been immortalized by Typepad, as far as I know.

Nice shout out Zane! I look at this photoblog several times a year and am always blown away. I hope it stays up indefinitely.

Shaun was a very inspired and inspiring individual! I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but emailed with him often to discuss things aviation. Super Cool Dude!

If you have any appreciation for fine photography..... dear readers.... visit the site. Shaun's eye for composition and color was outstanding.
Gone too soon.... but left an impression for all that follow.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: The legacy of Shaun Lunt

Shauns' blog is what brought me to BCP.
Great inspiration gained from his photos and travel.

Revenge is sweet. Bug-smashing all the way home...

This made me LOL... Great pictures - his sense of humor and his appreciation for his surroundings and sense of adventure really comes through in his writing. Thanks for passing this along, Z. Real shame.

Re: The legacy of Shaun Lunt

Thanks for posting this Zane. It's important to be reminded. I re-read the original thread, and still don't have any better words than what I managed at the time.

I learned of Shaun through watching his appearance in CubDriver Alaska. He came through as one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to share time, stories or airspace with. That was a great video, but it will be very bittersweet now. Not sure if I will want to watch it again soon.

Stay safe everyone.

Re: The legacy of Shaun Lunt

Thanks Zane, I too remember coming across his blog, being amazed at his photography and somewhat envious of his adventures...

It was a shock when I heard of his passing and I appreciate the reminder of the wonderful things he accomplished.

Shaun's accident was a terrible tragedy that we will remember forever.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have known him. This is my favorite photo of course.

I sometimes go and look through his photos. I was waiting for new ones to be loaded up and was shocked to learn that he died.

Thinking of good friends gone west. Tom, Tyler, Shaun and so many more.

All men die but not all men live.

Those of us who fly truly know what it is to live.

One of the best videos ever! About Shaun Lunt.

Wow. I was just looking at these photos earlier today and briefly thought about bumping the thread. That's eerie Rob.

I am wondering how much alike many of us really are....it is ironic because me and the spousal unit were discussing his fabulous photos and his sad demise, just last week.

I have his web site bookmarked. I go to it every so often for inspiration. Some of the best photography I've seen. He really knew how to live.

You can tell a lot about a man by the way he rides a motorcycle and flys an airplane. I Only got to ride with Shaun once, but he sure knew how to get around on two wheels!

Re:

He left an amazing mark on the community. What's even more amazing is how many people I've run into since that knew of his photography and flying that have never been on a forum. Many I know had never been on any "back country" websites at the time (or even the internet) and knew of his life. That, is leaving a "big ripple in the pond" for someone so young. That guy lived more in a week than I do in a year.

Re: The legacy of Shaun Lunt

Perhaps no better depiction of back country flying in Alaska. Such a talented pilot and photographer. My heart ached when he went down on that lonely beach on the Alaska coast. Thanks Zane for keeping him in our thoughts.
