It landed. No kid in it, either he never was, or there was a basket and he parted ways with the balloon in flight.

Seems a sibling stated the brother climbed in and went flying. I hope it's a bad kid joke on their parents and he's hiding at home.

Re: There's a kid up there in a helium balloon

I remember when my little brother went missing. We looked all over the house, all over the yard, and all over the neighborhood. No little brother. We were just about to call the police when he came out from hiding in the china cabinet and complained about being hungry. Let's hope this little fella is getting hungry real soon.

Given your brother's career, it seems appropriate that he would take a 7,000 ft balloon ride as a kid.

I was thinking the same thing... that perhaps he never actually took off in it. I certainly hope that's the case.

Nothing that exciting. He crapped his pants, and was afraid of the babysitter.

Re: There's a kid up there in a helium balloon

Here's saying the whole thing was a scam: glad to see the kids OK of course, but.......no way a helium balloon that size could lift a kid size weight, just a semi educated guess here. I'm thinking the guys reporting it are scammers and/or jokesters, and they knew the kid wasn't in there, and somehow the kid and his dad got mixed up in it.

I think the family was in on this "publicity stunt". [-X Talk about messed up if so!

Even the kid says "did it for show".

Re: There's a kid up there in a helium balloon

It was a total load of crap. The family was on TV this morning and the dad said his kid could have been electrocuted by the high voltage supply on board. Ha! They also showed the home vid of when the balloon took off and it was completely staged. Some of the worse acting ever. I hope they get charged for every hour anyone was looking for'em, make any other wannabe reality TV dipsh*t think twice before getting everyone all stirred up.

I must have my BS detector set on HIGH, note the time of my posting about it being a scam! This AM I saw the flakey father melting down on "Today", what a nut case, once he gets the bill he'll probably realize what a bad idea it was. Too bad he dragged his kids into it.

Heard on the news this evening the Larimer County Sherriff says it was not a hoax...so far. The talk was if it were a hoax the family would be responsible for $$$ for the effort. I guess we will just have to wait for the outcome. HC

I wouldn't waste my time looking. You mentioned scamming reporters in your first post. I think it's less of that and just ignorance on their part - - it was obvious to anyone conversant with balloons etc that that one wasn't hauling a kid. Now the father are the rest of his clan of attention seeking loonies . . .

Understand that the balloon as big as it was would only lift less than 10 lbs. -haven't seen any 6yr. old 10 lb. kids except in Africa . From video I suspect that it was a set up -balloon fly's off -lets say the kid was inside so we can get some free (news) coverage.

I don't know if it's true, but I heard that they closed DIA for a short time as well.

I would have had my ass seriously blistered as a child if I'd have done something like that.

Re: There's a kid up there in a helium balloon

DIA had to reroute north bound traffic and I believe it delayed T/O's for a bit.

Hopefully the FAA comes down on the family.
