I attended the 3rd annual NW Supercub fly-in at Cascade Airpark in Snohomish WA yesterday. Although I arrived in my 170 along with a buddy in his Luscombe, I was not made to feel unwelcome. Even bumped into a couple other 170 owners as well as some other friends.
Although I hope to avoid another uproar like last year when I made a similar comment, I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in the attendence level. I had a good time BS'ing, looking at some real nice Cubs, and watching the flour-bombing,spot-landing & short takeoff events. If I actually had a Cub, you couldn't have kept me away from that event with a stick! So naturally I was surprised that every Cub owner & back-country type in the pacific northwest area did not attend, especially given the awesome weather. the turnout was fair, but nowhere near where I thought it would be,given the number of Cub pilots in this region.
I even had occasion to converse a bit with Gunny, who objected to my comments on this site last year, and who subsequently withdrew his participation from BCP. However, (luckily?) don't think he knew (or cared) who I was.
Evening Magazine TV show (King-5 TV in Seattle) had a crew there covering the event, their intern even participated in the flour bombing as a bombadier with a camera in the back of another Cub flying formatioj on the bomber aircraft. Don't know when it will be televised, but watch for it if you get that show.

So, how many aircraft actually showed up? And, will you be joining us for some fun at Johnson Creek?

Perplexing that they don't fill the airfield with planes given how many Cub's and other taildraggers live up that way, but sometimes it takes a while to build some interest in these types of fly-ins.

Just before I left the airplane after arrival & started my rambling around the fly-in, Chris, I said hi to your wife & asked where you guys were from since I didn't recognize your 170 as a local airplane. I should have made the connection when she told me Ellensberg.
When I said I wasn't made to feel unwelcome, that was a bit tongue-in-cheek, everybody there was friendly enough.I have been to one or two type-specific gatherings in the past where, if you weren't flying the flavor-of-the-day airplane, you were classified as a wannabe. I won't mention any names but the groups' initials are the 180 Club. :wink:
Oh, the English lesson for the day: I believe the period-correct term for what happened to the Tigermoth was that it was "pranged". :(

One reason Gunny didn't make a big deal out of last year ia the fact that he is, among all else, the consumate gentleman. There are few out there with as big a heart as him.

A while ago, he gave a set of brand new Bushwheels to the guy - Bill Ingerson - who organizes the fly-in. Gunny's that kind of guy.

I think you'd really have to piss hium off to get on his bad side - if he has one.
