Joe, I think you must have linked to a private document that was sent to you through your Gmail account? If it shows up your Google Docs, you can make it public and re-link.

Was it the video of the amphib Cessna going ass over teakettle in the water?

Zane,

I think it's a series of pictures of a single Otter amphib going endo on ampibs, after landing in the water gear down. I've seen it a couple places, and it's been circulated as a PPT when I've seen it.

A shame to have to see that but everyone got out ok.
This is why I should consider fixed penetration skis.

And that is one of the major reasons I don't have amphibs. More than likely that was a professional pilot, he just screwed up, like any mortal can do. The girl in the headset telling you wheels up or down, does not have a hammer to make sure you do it properly. They were lucky to be in shallow water, if out deeper the survival rate would probaby have been much different. Steve

Re: This is a water landing, the wheels are--- Down?

A customer and now good friend of mine was there with his 206 amphib and saw it happen, that incident helped him with his gear checks also.Have a look at Martin's European seaplane adventure from last summer, i helped him buy the 206 and he trained in my C185 then transitioned to his 206. Martin has also traveled the world and lived on a 60 ft sail boat for the last 15-20 years, now moored in Barcelonia, a very interesting, adventurous and fine guy! I know of too many that have either gear down - water or gear up- land, some were instructors also so it don't matter on what experience level you are at, it only takes 1 distraction! I keep thinking about having amphibs on my 185 but for the price i can have my 180 on wheels also for less $$. Steve - you can have a 185 on aerocets and a 182 on wheels, best of both worlds!

Re: This is a water landing, the wheels are--- Down?

Brian, I did have a 182 for transportation and the 185 for fun for a few years. After moving up here, I only want to fly floats or skis and after a year, decided I could not justify keeping the 182 for the occasion trip south. You are right, the extra cost of amphibs would almost buy the 182. There are times I wish it was still around, but I can say the same about a certain Super Cub that Portage Creek now owns. Steve

Brian, Your buddy Martin must have quite the life. He also must be a master at cutting through red tape.
