Lol, no! It's just something I would normally never get the chance to watch. I find that kind of stuff interesting!

Ok few! I was recording so I tried to take all safety steps to keep me out of trouble with any potential viewers.

Sorry about the shaking my head part. But that's how we communicate with the chopper pilot. Nod YES for up and shake NO for down.

Oh its not the shaking that's bothering me, it's the heights! Haha.

I'll keep my desk job but those are a thrill to just watch. can you describe what you are doing? decommissioning a transmission tower, or why are the insulators being removed?

We are raising the towers to get more clearance from the wire off of roads, heavily farmed fields, or other power lines. So the first thing we do is add another top section to the tower. Then we have to go back and raise all the conductors. And beings how we are already there we change out the 1950s glass for new stuff. You can look at my YouTube channel and see all the steps. I'm still uploading some videos.

Nice to see all the safety gear, both on the ride and working the towers. Flying shake blocks around here the ground crew always wanted to just step on the hook and hold the cable with their hand.

Your 500 pilot can sure fly that hook well. He must be using what, about a 100' line?. We could use a few like him to do flare tip changes on our offshore rigs.

yea it was our first time working together. he was very good! if you watch my video of moving the fiber up you can see he will move up and down just an inch for me to pull the pin. 100' line. they pay him well and he earns it!

Re: This is how i support my addiction!

I wouldn't mind hanging off the rope, it would be hanging on the side of the tower that would bother me! Very cool!
