This has been blown way out of proportion in my view. But, I do feel he should get a fine for trespassing.
What would make this pilot assume he would even have the permission from a gulf course to even land there in the first place or that a big resort like Marriott wouldn't care is the question in my mine.
Pilots like this guy don't do GA any favors in my opinion.

I land at alot of private fields and grass strips but I drive by or call for permission first and have never been turned down. I only had one owner wanted me to drive by first so he could show me the bad spots.

Just asking permission will get you and the owner what you both want. It has worked great for me.

I have done exactly as you have and it has always (well almost always) worked great for me also. The one time it didn't, I had permission and even signed a release to use a dirt strip. The rest of the story will have to wait for a campfire at J.C. If I can count on JMTGT and SUPERDAVE to not leak the details. ;-)

Bad judgement and lack of common sense got this guy into this mess. I just wish they would have let him fly back out.

Then liability and lawsuits rear their ugly heads...

The hotel lets dumbshit take off from the golf course and he clips a wing on a tree and crashes. Now his widow sues the hotel for the loss of her husband and young son. How much is that gonna cost?

Cheaper for the hotel to get sued by the pilot for the crane dinging a wing on his Piper, and a whole lot less exposure. In today's world what other choice could the manager have made? And, I'm betting the police were calling the shots that way too.

No, he won't have a license to do it again, I bet. Yeah, I think that "they" will get that stupid.

Just noticed that the pilot has 10 children. This should say something about his common sense or lack of. Ford

They are talking about it on the Radio in Houston now. Talk about giving GA a bad image.
