Tieton Airstrip 4S6, June 1st 2013

Tieton Airstrip WA 4S6, June 1st 2013

I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone else wants to show up. The wife is out of town this weekend and I have yet to go camping with my airplane. So my 90lb Labrador copilot and I are headed up to Tieton. Looks like the weather might cooperate and dry out. I plan on flying in early in the day Saturday and then head over to Packwood sunday morning for breakfast.

Ill have some extra cold ones on ice,

Ken

Re: Tieton Airstrip 4S6, June 1st 2013

That sounds like a great time waterboy, but I will be traveling to the Redwoods this weekend. I was hoping to get in there over Memorial Day, but it wasn't my idea of a good time trying to get in there. I would like to meet up there some other time and check it out. Trip report when you return?

The 170 is down for annual and a few new goodies before J.C. or I'd be there for sure. Next time!

Love to join you, but my weekend to work  Bring your ear plugs, campers can be rowdy there! Stop by Walgreen's and introduce yourself sometime. I'm a pharmacist there. :D

Re: Tieton Airstrip 4S6, June 1st 2013

Rob I think one dog in the plane will be plenty but thanks to your photo I now have a better idea of how to secure my cargo net in the back of the plane. There is not much to attach to in the back of the 170.

Scott Ill stop in and introduce myself some time soon. Copy on the ear plugs.:? I hope you'll see my 170 in Hood River sooner than later but right now I am #21 on the waiting list for a hanger. I don't like the idea of the plane sitting out in the wind for weeks at a time while Im gone at work.

Scolopax give me a shout any time you want to go up that way and Ill fly in.

Slight chance I might be able to buzz up there in the Sport Cub schedule permitting.

I probably can't make it on Saturday but might be able to run up to Packwood on Sunday morning.

I'll be flying back from Yakima to PDX Saturday and would probably be able to stop by and say hello. Maybe I can follow Pete or vice versa.

The weather is looking good for Saturday. NOAA says for Rim Rock Lake, "Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon."

Pete and Cub271 stop in and say hello. DCO-65 might see you at Packwood, Ive had good coffee and breakfast at Butter Butte Coffee CO. and plan to head there.

Ranger Creek is just over the pass and I think I will bang out a landing or two there as well.

Im getting tired of all this spring rain. Bring on the sunshine! [-o<

I used to run my old C170 alot without the rear seat and there was plenty of stuff to attach to. Beside the tracks for the backrest adjusters, I installed rings at the two floor and two side rear seat attach points. A hardware store steel ring with a link of sash chain (aka tailwhweel chain) used to run the attaching screw through works just fine. You can also fasten to the front of the hat shelf if it's still installed, or mount rings at the shelf attach points. Some people also use cargo rings which are made to slide onto the seat tracks.

Flew over about 10AM looking to see if anyone was at Tieton State to say hello. Nobody home. Still lots of snow in the high Cascades.

Re: Tieton Airstrip 4S6, June 1st 2013

Unfortunately I had to make some last minute changes to my trip. The camping part got canceled and just went up for a few hours today.

Cub271 sorry I missed you, I landed around 11am.

The grass is in great shape and Geese look healthy too. Next time I will make a low pass and run them off.

Thanks for the kind words and tremendous complement Kevin. I really missed being a part of PNH this year and hope to return in the future.

I look forward to meeting all you BCP guys out there as I learn to maneuver my underpowered bug smasher through the mountains.
