Tires and tubes.

Theoretically speaking if a person were to put 8.50 tires and tubes on stock 6 inch wheels on an Aeronca 7BCM with a C85 where is a recommended place to buy these tires and tubes? Tires need tread. Most if all operations would be pavement. Used might be ok if they were in decent shape.

Just thought I'd ask.

Agree, Desser is a good place to get them if they are available. If you are and AOPA member I believe they give a discount. Also, they usually have a sale during Sun-n-Fun with either a discount or free shipping. Keep apprised of their website.

Before proceeding further, make sure you can legally install them. Either get a copy of someone's 337 or find a good IA/AP that will be able to install them with paperwork. Next step would be to try the 26" AkBushwheels which already have an STC. But as you mention, if you are landing mainly on pavement, there is no tread and they will wear quickly.

I may have a couple of 8.50's in my Hangar that I am not using. I know I have Goodyear and McCreary, unfortunately, I might only have one of each and they are not the same size!! The GY stands taller.

Buy natural rubber tubes, NOT synthetic. I've been hearing lots of pinhole leaks with synthetic tubes.

Why do you feel you need thread?

The Dessert 8.50 Smoothies are relatively cheap (for airplane tires) and seem to hold up very well on pavement. I've been flying a plane with them on lately, practicing crosswind landings, and they work great. New to me type of TW airplane and trying to assess it's flying characteristics. Plane is still in one piece and the tires have been taking a beating.

Re: Tires and tubes.

Bushwheels say you need heavy duty brakes which I don't have. I assumed that treaded tires would hold up longer on pavement. I don't know how to find a 337. All this information, or lack of it is why I'm asking you guys. There is alot more knowledge on this site than I have. Just trying to find a legal way to do this. What happens if I do it anyway?
