Tokatee (3S6) Oregon

I stopped into Tokatee on 02 May to check out the conditions. The airfield and camping areas are dry and in good shape. It should be a great weekend for a campout - get to it! There is a ton of firewood available, particularly if you bring a splitting maul. There were a number of deer on and around the airfield, so use caution.

Both ends of the runway have been marked with 'X's using tires. However, the airfield is not NOTAMed as closed, nor does the ODA indicate the airfield is closed. I suspect that the USFS folks did this last year when they were using the airfield for fire fighting. I'm negotiating with ODA/USFS to avoid future closures.

If anyone feels like a spot of exercise this weekend, I would appreciate getting the 'X's removed and the tires restored to their proper locations as the runway end markers.

Great photo!

The surface looks good enough to bring in my Lake Buccaneer with its iddy-biddy tires.
If I make it out there soon, I'll see what I can do about the tires.

You could try landing on Tokatee Lake and walk 8 miles uphill to enjoy the airfield!

I'm thinking I'll go down there Sunday afternoon and spend the night. I have to be back to work by 10ish Monday. I'll see what I can do about the tires.

I camped last night at Tokatee. What an awesome spot. The X's on the way have been removed.

Excellent-thanks for your assistance. I’ll try to get the wind socks installed soon.

It is a great place to camp.

Glad to hear! Overflew it and didn't land because the Xs were there, and the elk wouldn't move, two weeks ago - but looked in great shape to us as well! Beautiful spot.
