Reminds me of Johnston Atoll en route to the Federated States of Micronesia. I was a passenger that departed Honolulu and flew 700 NM across the vast Pacific. Johnston Atoll was closed and the filed alternate was Honolulu. Without touching down the pilot returned back to Honolulu, fueled and set out again. This time the runway was usable!
Note: Johnston Island is en route to Bikini and Enewetak Atoll (Nuclear Test Sites).
Welcome aboard and enjoy the scenery!
