Toledo, OR tiny airport big fun

Another really cool little airport that can possibly be completely flooded underwater under certain atmospheric conditions. The approach and departure is short and dangerous!

Reminds me of Johnston Atoll en route to the Federated States of Micronesia. I was a passenger that departed Honolulu and flew 700 NM across the vast Pacific. Johnston Atoll was closed and the filed alternate was Honolulu. Without touching down the pilot returned back to Honolulu, fueled and set out again. This time the runway was usable!

Note: Johnston Island is en route to Bikini and Enewetak Atoll (Nuclear Test Sites).

Welcome aboard and enjoy the scenery!

I still have never landed Toledo. Looks like a neat spot.

The airfield is one of the coolest!

Also, the Yaquina River is great for seaplanes. However, salmon can jump right in front of the aircraft during spawning season. Scary.

There’s a boat ramp that’s rarely crowded. Good alternative especially if the South Beach ramp is packed in summer. The Toledo Shipyard is pretty good but, expensive.

Note: I’m over the middle of the Pacific using Starlink! Very fast and as good or better than cell! Aloha…
