Tonasket, WA Fathers Day Fly-in 2014

This is just a reminder/invite to the Tonasket (W01) Fathers-Day fly in 2014. As you might have guessed it falls on Fathers-Day weekend June 14-15.
There is camping on the field, or you are welcome to camp at our place, Fowler Field (02WN), 6 miles East North East of Tonasket. We have lots of space for camping with your plane. The field is gravel 1500 feet long and off the runway can be a bit rough so be careful taxiing around.
There is a steak dinner Saturday, and I hear there is going to be a spot landing contest also.
I look forward to seeing you there............

Re: Tonasket, WA Fathers Day Fly-in 2014

This fly in sounds promissing. I hope the passes are clear enough early enough to get through from Seattle. School is out and this dad will be bringing my now 5th grade girl. What fun is there for a girl at the fly in?

Redbarron180 when are you heading over and what route are you taking?

Re: Tonasket, WA Fathers Day Fly-in 2014

Truck,
I am planning to go over Wednesday morning. I live on Lopez Island and usually go direct, which ends up being very near the North Cascades highway. If you are coming from Seattle area Stevens pass might be the best route.
While we never know who will actually show up, there are supposed to be several kids there. If you come up our way we have a couple dirt bikes and a 4 wheeler to thrash around the place (240 acres). I guess it depends how girly your girl is, my grand girls love that stuff.
Hope to see you there..........

Here is a live cam at Fowler Field in Tonasket. It will give you an idea what the weather is doing there. I'm heading over tomorrow morning..........

Great view from the Fowler Field web cam, you can see the windsock clearly. A quite night camping at Fowler looks guaranteed.

I have my eye on the weather. Bit of rain expected now on both sides. Getting a little wet is ok as long as it remains VFR. May have to take the long way around through the Gorge. Say hi if you see a brown and cream pacer.

Theres a TFR #4/9912 right smack in the middle of the "gorge". SFC-5700'. Valid till Oct 1st!!!!!!!!
I use this route all the time when the passes are not VFR. This now puts a damper on things.

That's not good. Preemptive TFR in the middle of a major VFR corridor? Whose idea was that?

Re: Tonasket, WA Fathers Day Fly-in 2014

That's the worse TFR I have ever seen. The Columbia river must be on fire and it's going to take all summer to put it out. Good job placing it exactly where you can't fly low around it.

This definitely changes my eastern Washington plans. The gorge route is handy to get back home too.

The fire is less than 5 acres. Should be a short lived TFR.

I hope it was as innocent as somebodies fat fingers putting in 10 as the end month instead of the end day on some computer field. Because I have never done that before.

That's good. Are they usually scheduled for such a long duration simply to be conservative so they don't need to be reentered?

I'm not sure but suspect that is the case. I have seen the fire fighting TFRs issued "Until further notice" and with an until date just a few days after it was issued. I did notice the TFR for the Two bulls fire had "Untill Oct.1" also and it is gone now too.

Requests are made through ARTCC...KZSE - Seattle in our case. It may be a policy of the NW fire dispatch office or Seattle ARTCC. I'll have to check some more through this summer to see.
