2011.05.6-7 Ibex Hard Pan (Utah)

The fly-in for the Utah Backcountry Pilots Association to Ibex was cancelled last weekend because of weather. I'm planning to go down this weekend (May 6-7) instead. Has anyone been over there lately to check conditions? It rained on Saturday, but I don't know if Ibex got much or any at all.

If the weather stays good, and it looks like it will right now, my wife and I will be there. Two of her nieces may come as well. Anyone else who wants to meet up let me know!

Here's where Ibex is:
38°59.0 N
113°22.0 W

No problem Tim - we took off a little before noon because it was getting a little windy. Lawleraero flew in from Lava Hot Springs in Idaho in his M7 - they stayed at Freemont Island on Thurdsay night. We got there a little late on Friday, but it was just in time to share the dinner Tom and Denise made! The weather was great, and there were about 5 other planes on the other side of the island. The lake bed was solid and smooth. I'll upload a bunch of pictures.

Here is a video I made:

I intended to make it out today but the guy that was going with me was having his Waco annualed. We ended up hanging out at the airport a lot longer than I thought. Just got one hr bouncing around the West desert instead. Funny how the sound of a radial engine pulls every pilot out of their hangers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OZZtF-z_Vc

PS, that is the first start in a year and a half. 1937 Waco, Original not a reproduction.

Great video! Looks like a great spot to camp in the middle of no where :D

I was just trucking along 6/50 from Delta, Utah all the way over to Bishop, CA this last Tuesday/Wed. I stopped for the night (Tues) at a turnoff that's just north of Ibex.

Re: 2011.05.6-7 Ibex Hard Pan (Utah)

I was going to come but...but...but...but I found this really cool rerun of the Brady Bunch on DVD. Then my dog wanted to play fetch. Then I wrote a letter to the BLM how airplane noise ruins my outdoor experience. My wife wanted me to go to the day spa with her, how could I say no on mothers day? My bunions have just been killing me, OMG!

If I here one more lame excuse for not flying the airplane I am going to piss myself. WTF!

Just sell the damn plane and join the local PTA!!
