...deserve to see something cool. Enough with the bickering over decorum and endless minutia about firearms, and blatant breakage of the content policy with your aerobatic planes and whatever else... 8) Maybe I can rein us back in. Also, the next person to bump the Bitches and Concerns thread will be banned. :twisted:

I flew to Alaska for 30 hours. Yes, just 30 hours. I paid a visit to our sponsor Airframes Alaska, and spent some brief but quality time with akschu. We ate smoked brisket and drank beer and White Russians. It snowed 4" and I got to witness first hand the shit show of the Anchorage-Wasilla commute at 5pm in my rental Subie. At one point I saw an overturned car on FIRE, full involved FIRE, flames 12 feet tall. All because of snow. Ahhh, big city Alaska.

I pulled up to Birchwood airport to the scene of fresh pow and this beautiful 170.

Somebody on this trip, to remain unnamed, seriously laughed at me when I told them I have a Pacer. Ahh hemmm.

After an hour drive in packed snow surrounded by wankers (admittedly better than Portland drivers)...

But then it was back to work, albeit somewhat drunk on the devil's creamy cocktail.

Tuesday was a cruel, ugly day. CAVU and 22 F.

Ok, maybe I'm a little generous with the term "CAVU."

Adios, AK. Somewhere down there are the Knik glacier, Colony glacier, Lake George, and the mud strip...under a blanket of snow.

You have always been partial to 170's. The 170's were the prettiest planes at HSF.

bump for the bitches... :wink:

Hell, I'm always a bit amazed at (and a little disappointed in) anyone who reads my posts, much less replies to them. In nine months time I'll be fourteen and can no longer claim to be the original thirteen-year-old poser.

The internet isn't about real people doing real things...it's about speculation and conjecture. Everyone knows that, and you should be ashamed for posting anything real. It brings the whole enterprise down...

What did you learn that you can share about what limits Airframe's tire longevity and issues?

I hope you all were entertained by this thread. I did have a few beers. Sometimes I lose my famous restraint when the beer flows like wine.

Heh heh...

I asked specifically about this topic with that thread in mind. I was told that prior to moving operations north from Oregon, the Oregon owners changed the supply rubber formulation. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was an ongoing effort to improve some characteristic of the tires. But as we know, the early batches coming out of Birchwood had some issues.

In 2016, Airframes returned to a previous formulation with the rubber supplier in an effort to get the previous surface durability back. It's likely the tire from that thread was stock pre-dating the formulation (re)change.

Now, that's paraphrasing what I was told in a very non-technical explanation. Keep that in mind. I have a set of 31's from that era that would have been affected, but they've been stored in the attic for a couple seasons, never used. I'll be curious what happens to them.

Re: TR: You f()cking wankers...

I've since looked at several Bushwheels and Airstreaks like mine locally and none look as bad as the affected tire in the other butt crack thread. Just minor surface checking. So in retrospect mine fall within the range of normal vs age. The changes in composition make sense as Airframes perfects their product.

The major checking for me happened one winter when I parked on bare soil before skis. Airframes now recommends here (http://www.airframesalaska.com/Resources-s/1900.htm) against that so I took steps to put rubber sheeting under the tires.

Wassilly can be home on the range for some real meth wankers prone to crime and one step ahead of the law. The rest fly planes and enjoy the country life.

My cars are both 15 years old, so a new rental Subie feels luxurious, and it rips in/on snow.

Re: TR: You f()cking wankers...

Little bit off topic, but I just purchased a 2018 Subie Ouback. It is my 5th Subaru.
I got started on Sub's when I purchased a 1985 GL wagon that had 5-speed with high/low range. This was around 1991. I was working with the AZ game and fish on Ft. Huachuca, AZ. I was stocking fish ponds and had parked the car on a steep hill and forgot to put the parking brake on. I was chest deep in the water when I heard a big splash! The biologist yells at me that my car just rolled into the pond. I ran over in hopes to drive it back out before filling with water. Needless to say, this was in a manmade pond. It's Banks were nearly straight up and down so the car was actually floating.
Windows were all down and it soon reached the point where water rushed into the car and quickly submerged it!
It took two huge fire trucks and a wrecker to get it out.
Being in AZ, it is hot and dry, so I removed the fuel tank, drained all fluids, cleaned the carb, and got the fingerlings from on the floor out, before they stated stinking.
Put it back together and ended up driving that car another 80,000 miles! That is dependability!! Been sold on Subaru's ever since.

Oh, one more funny...about 6 months later I was driving back home from Phoenix. Needed a little heat/defrost, so I turned on the blower fan.....a friggin dead dried up fingerling came flying out!! I busted out laughing. Ah, the good 'ol days.... memories!

PS. Sitting on my deer stand with nothing better to do than tell stories on my favorite aviation site.

You locked "bitches and concerns"! I was gonna bump it because I have been kicked out of better places by worse people...no, I have been kicked out of worse places by better people...damnit you get the idea.

Your post needed to be written, there are lots of forums out there for other types of flying and guns and stuff. I would prefer a smaller community but more focused on BCPing.
