Transiting through the SLC area
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
Anyone has any thoughts about transiting through the Salt Lake City area? Are the controllers pretty good about letting vfr pilots travel the flyways?
I'm headed from northern AZ up to Idaho and currenly planning my route.
thanks,
Chris

Search the archives on this subject, it's been thoroughly covered, not too long ago. I can tell you the SLC controllers seemed to be very easy to work with, and I don't even have a transponder. Having said that, you always have the cowards way out, fly the backside, that's what I do, it will also get you to Idaho.

If you are flying up the valley stay just west of the Wasatch front. Stay east of I-80 and get a hold of approach. Very easy to work with. More scenic to fly east of all that over the Utah dessert. Well at least I think so.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Thanks, guys! I just stumbled on that thread as well. It's quite useful.
I just crossed Phoenix Class B, directly over Sky Harbor, and the controllers were great. Sounds like consensus is that the SLC area controllers are easy to work with as well.
Much appreciated,
Chris
