Trip getting organized

Will be heading from Ontario (Canada) to Chibaugamau - Labrador City - Nain - Kuujjuaq sometime mid July and looking forward to some new sights to see. Any ensight would be greatly appreciated. Been working with my GoPro and find that I need to get it outside the plane and onto the float (or any ideas) but am afraid of loosing it. How are you guys teathering them as added security? I was thinking tuck tape or fibreglass tape with masonry string or firewire. Finding that continuous play is not needed as it is somewhat boring ecept for t/o & landings. Will be trying out the feature that takes a photo every so often as well it will extend the battery life. I have the extra battery pack. Any other suggestions. Scratched the lens area on the housing already and have the replacement. Hope I can replace it and still have the same waterproof integrity. Thanks.

If you mount it outside the airplane, get it connected REALLY solid. And, try to mount it outside the prop arc, to reduce movement associated with prop pulses.

Re: Trip getting organized

I know many will have there opinions but the suction cup mount has worked flawless for me...so far.

The other mount I have is semi permanent. Its the surfboard mount that has adhesive. Its on my horizontal stab. I even had a fed look at it during a ramping and said "that looks like it works". I figure if I ever want to take it off it could be a bit difficult but it definelty does not come off.

The other clips and gadgets that come with the gopro allow you to mount on the V brace inside (if you have one) or the foot step or the whatever else you can find. They do work.

Zip ties also do wonders

Good luck

I bought the one here http://www.aerovideo.net and got it today. Will mount to wing strut or float strut. This is clearly made for this application and no need to tether.

Mine came with a suction cup that looks very similar??? I'm trying to build the nerve to try it. I'll figure a way to teather it just in case.

Re: Trip getting organized

We put one on the float of the Albatross and flew with it on there for two weeks straight. I was getting some good dunks in the water during during takeoff and landing . The suction cup worked awesome . We did have it tethered just in case but it never came off. They put them on a NASCAR with the suction cup. They were doing over 190 mph. Bet you won't go faster than that!

Re: Trip getting organized

Sounds like the suction cup is going to work. My passenger for the trip... the one paying for half is sick and can't go. Puts me out of it this time, but eventually I will get all the way out to Nain. I will be still going to Kuujjuaq but not until later now. Should have some time to test out the gopro prior. I saw the results of one mounted on the float, I'd say somwhere in front of the front spreader bar and liked the results. Saw one on the spreader bar and it was cool as well. It took a fair swim up until on step but I thought took a little too long for the lens to clear the water beads. Anyway, thanks for the ideas and some confidence to do it... teathered for sure. I think I want it where I can keep an eye on it and at least land if it does come undone.
