Trip Plan: 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay

This year the U.S. Open is within walking distance of my house in University Place, Washington, but I am not a golfer. I got a wild idea to post my water-front lock-off studio apartment (please do not refer to it as a Mother-in-Law place, as I do not want her living with me) on Craigslist. It got me thinking to see if any of the BCP brethren were planning to pay a bunch of money to watch someone else chase a little white ball around a park? Anyone making the pilgrimage to Washington? Need a place to stay?

It got me thinking... would anyone have a need for a place to stay for $ or for a swap for time in their vacation place? As an added bonus, I have a hangar at KTIW for my ratty little Cessna 150, which I would roll out onto the ramp and let you park your fancy bird in my hangar. The price on Craigslist is just a swipe at getting some rich guy to part with their money, and the trade thing has me more interested...

Here is the scoop on the studio:

It also got me thinking about setting up a pilot friendly B&B type thing (minus the breakfast) for folks that were heading to the Puget Sound area... would this work? I can picture a cool, informal network of similar set-ups.

Anyone making the trip? And of course, the price would be significantly lowered for the cool kids who are pilots :-)

Thanks,
Bob

I was kinda surprised that Chambers Bay got picked for the big open. The course was built fairly recently on the site of a big gravel pit, and if you check satellite imagery, it still looks like a gravel pit- only with grass growing in places. "Gravel Pit Downs" might be a better name than Chambers bay. I imagine it'll look pretty good after a few more years, but to me it's kinda ugly. But then again I don't know how old the sat imagery is, maybe it looks nicer now. BTW it's just southeast of KTIW.
