Tsunami Debris

Has anyone gone beach combing for tsunami debris yet? Just heard second hand of a guy that picked up 805 glass bottles and bouys on Montague Island in one day. I was relayed the direct area but asked to keep it under wraps but I'm eager to hear of any spots to hit or any stories so far.

Re: Tsunami Debris

There's been some stuff washed ashore here in Washington, a couple fishing floats etc, but so far it's been pretty hit or miss. The people who've gone out specifically to find some have been getting skunked. I read a news article that said literally TONS of debris (yes, TONS!) will be drifting over here & will be a major problem unless some sort of plans are made to deal with it.

This could be the best part....

I wonder if the radioactive part will be taken seriously at some point...

Spent a lot of time on Hinchenbrook and Montague recently (3-5 weeks ago) with a little luck but not much. I am betting we were early. Did find about 50 new left footed shoes scattered around. I wonder if they ship shoes in all lefts or all rights as we only found lefts...

I read about that as well. Might have to arrange the BCP Coast Airlift for trash pick-up. I am hoping to find a Prius.

Re: Tsunami Debris

After close to a year bobbing around in the salt chuck I guess it wasn't too pristine.

Ya somewhere on Vancouver Island. Just needs a little work. If I was the owner I wouldn't want it back. It's scrap

I'll take a few of the left Nike trail runners.
Then I'll wait for a subsequent "find" post. :)

Re: Tsunami Debris

I think you mean this one. It was in the Queen Charlottes, not Vancouver Island.

Re: Tsunami Debris

I think there will be a lot of interesting "picking" debris to be found. I read somewhere (can't find it now) that a guy found a tsunami evacuation sign floated ashore. Stuff like that I find absolutely fascinating. Is it just a little more sea garbage? Of course, but if my future grandkids can show it on the wall, that's cool with me.

Re: Tsunami Debris

Lotsa dead & missing people over there. I wouldn't think anything edible would be intact after this much time in the water but wouldn't be surprised if bones etc washed up. Maybe they don't float but motorcycles generally don't either so I'm not gonna rule anything out.

907 pilot...The 'sea garbage' that your grandchildren can 'admire'..maybe it belonged to someone else's grandchildren that don't have any use for it now...
