1. Prop Vortalators from Aircraft Spruce. A few weeks ago there was a discussion about new prop technology. I decided to try the Prop Vortalators and can report to you that you should save your money. I installed the kit on my prop and it made absolutely no improvement. If there was any change, it was negative. Don't bother with it! NO!
2. There has also been a long discussion about helmets. After the report from accident investigations in Alaska about fatalities over the past several years, many of which could have been survivable if a helmet had been worn, I elected to try out the A-Alpha Half Shell Peltor Helmet. When it arrived (fast service) I began to try to install my Dave Clark headset inside the helmet as was suggested by one of the members. After much frustration, I sat there looking at what I then believed to have been a mistaken purchase - it would not work, no matter what I tried. Then, in order to satisfy myself that I would have tried every conceivable approach, I tried the headset on the outside of the helmet. Eureka!! That worked beautifully except that it moved around and was not stable. After a little analysis I was able to secure the metal strap of the headset to the top of the helmet by using the ventilation holes and some very heavy waxed thread that is used in sewing leather. It is now stable, easy to put on and off, is very comfortable with excellent visibility, and gives me added safety for my noggin. I recommend this as a very inexpensive approach that works. I'm sure that the high dollar helmets are better but that is not in my budget. YES!
