Next weekend, July 13, we will hold our annual bar-be-que at Smiley Creek, ID. Dinner will be served at around 7:00 on Saturday evening. After having to miss the event last year, our resident cook, Mel Rozema has agreed to prepare the ribs this year. We are also planning the regular fare of corn, beans and salad.
Smiley Creek (U87) is looking forward to hosting us again this year. Most traffic lands south and takes off north. The frequency is 122.9. Keep in mind this is a high elevation landing strip. Most pilots like to arrive or depart as early in the morning as possible. Watch for the possibility of sprinklers operating on the grass runway. The caretaker waters the runway one half at a time, so if you see sprinklers operating, simply move over to the other side of the runway on final and execute a normal landing. Looking ahead, the weather looks like it should be beautiful with sunny calm days. Bring tie downs as it is not uncommon for an afternoon thunderstorm to come through.
We have made many friends over the years due to this event and hope to make acquaintances again and that you will consider coming. If you would rather drive up, that's fine, too and all are welcome to camp at the airfield campground.
If you plan on joining us we would appreciate a quick email with how many people you expect to have. Your RSVP will help us make sure we have enough food for everyone.
