The gear on mine was set up for Reno air races. This is what it's supposed to look like. Had it been on the airplane the strike never would have happened.

This one has an O-290GPU in it. It's probably about the right horsepower but so many of the parts on the O-290 are true unobtanium that I'll maybe put an O-320 in it. The O-290 is the lightest of the Lycomings and I've got a line on a couple of 290D models which I may do. The crank is toast but my intuition tells me, having done lots of research on the history of the airplane, that the cam and lifters are gone too. There just aren't any. Anywhere. That is without just buying another engine with a good one. So we'll see. I need to hold my horses until I get it home and rip into it and find out what's what.whee wrote:Awesome! What engine is used in those? Looks like too much fun.

Either way, it's a 5 hr drive or 1.5 hr flight. It'd be fun to help out and meet you. Let me know.

A1Skinner wrote:Great choices on airplanes Pat. I really liked and most days miss my citabria. If I could carry the family in it I would still have it. The devil is talking to me too. I'd like to sell the 180, partner a Cherokee 6 or 206 with my brother for our longer flights, and get a wrecked citabria fuselage to build up in the homeowners maintenence category. I'm in Canada, and doing that I feel I could build a pretty sweet light plane for the kind of shenanigans that I will use that plane for.
Damn devil and his sweet talking ways...
