UL91 fule approval for Lycoming engines

I just saw this on the Maulepilots.org BB and was wondering if anyone over here had further information.

I missed this earlier in the year. http://www.generalaviationnews.com/2012 ... ded-avgas/. Notable is that all the engines for the 235 hp Maules and possibly the 260hp (V series) are going to be included. (The 360 series were already covered.)

"The latest models to be approved include the large installed base of (I)O- 320-B, D; LIO-320-B; O-540-A, D, E, F, G, H, J; and IO-540-C, D, N, T, V, W, AF, AB engine models"

An almost comical statement from the Lycoming spokesperson; "If your engine is approved on this fuel then your airframe is automatically approved ... in the EU. In the U.S., if the engine is approved, you may still need approval for the airframe."

A bit of common sense prevailing in the US and not Europe for a change.

SO...where and when does someone go about buying ASTM D7547 UL 91 unleaded avgas in the US. Looks like it is on market in the EU. Just have to make sure your airframe is approved. As far as I know it isn't available in the US yet. Anyone know differently?

Is UL91 (Unleaded 91?) different to the 91 you get from the local petrol station?
Bugger it looks like my engine is missed off that list. #-o

From what I've read, UL91 is different from the car gas in that UL91 is manufactured/brewed/refined to a given specification (essentially 100ll without the lead). Auto gas is refined to various other specifications that vary quite a bit and may be, but most likely are not, the same as UL91. The refiners can use whatever they have at their disposal, ethanol included, to get the octane where it should be for car gas.

Whatever happened to the 82UL fuel that was gonna be the next big thing? Even went so far as EAA adding it to their STC along with unleaded mogas. My STC paperwork & stickers all list 82UL as an approved fuel. Maybe this UL91 is gonna be the next big nothing.
