I searched the old thread and all of the posts are over two years old. Knowing what goes on with tech stuff I figured we should update what everyone knows on this subject as I am looking for advice on making a purchase.
I want to do some filming for various reasons of my work flying and as such I have a fairly strict set of requirements.
I want to put multiple cameras on the plane simultainiously, maybe up to three in different spots so they can't be $1,000 a piece.
They need to have a good sized memory because I don't want to be downloading or changing cards every two loads.
They need to have good vibration control properties, good high speed blur control for action shooting, and pretty much everything needs to be auto adjustable as I won't be able to be screwing with gain and lighting changes, etc. while I work.
They need to have multiple ways of mounting as I have about 12 places I want to be able to put them.
And I want there to be at least one lens selection that is fairly wide or even fisheye.
Let me know what you tech-savvy brainiacs think is the best available for the buck as we go into 2011.
Thank you and Merry Christmas.

G, what you are describing sounds like a more advanced system with multiple lipstick cameras, etc, but here is a recent thread about all the helmet-cam class HD cameras:

I have a GoPro HD that I'm interested in selling. I bought it for my motorcycle, but then sold the bike and never used the camera. It's not quite "new in the box," but pretty close. I don't remember what I paid for it and don't remember much about it other than it's small, lightweight and the picture quality is excellent. I also don't what the market is for an item like this and will leave it others to point that out to me.

The Drift Cameras look interesting and I see on the thread Zane posted that several people posting on this site bought them. Any updates on how well they work?

I have a Contour HD1080 mounted on a strut with a 16GB memory card. Its battery lasts under 2 hours so I have multiple batteries. I just turn it on and hopefully will have something to edit later. The last two times my Pinnacle software has claimed that the first leg was a damaged file and the last leg only filmed for 20 seconds or so.
Can't really recommend this camcorder if you need the movies because I can't tell when I'm going to get something and when I'm not. I also don't like that it uses micro SD cards;
something smaller than my fingernail is too small for me to be messing around with outside.
I have a Sony HD AVHCD with a wideangle lens in the cockpit with a 32gb card and an Infotec STR-FH100-JWP battery that lasts about 3 hours. I have played with a Singh-Ray circular polarizer filter to deal with reflections. I would prefer that the memory cards weren't Sony's proprietary format (expensive) but the camera has never disappointed me.
The Drift camera looks pretty neat with its paired RF remote control to 5 meters.

My next POV camera will be the drift HD170. I won't buy a camera without a screen - period. Bang for the buck, the features of the drift are impressive and the picture is on par with the GoPro HD. Also, the lens rotates so you can level the picture no matter what it's mounted on. The RF remote can be paired up with multiple cameras and the extended 1700 battery lasts many hours. And for some reason the vibration is very little due to reasons I'm not sure (even with a bad mount the vibration is acceptable).
The only downside I see about the camera is it's a little bigger than you think and it's not waterproof. If you don't need a HD camera there are a lot of options out there, if you do need HD, get the drift.

This site has quite a number of camera reviews. They also have video samples for most, if not all, of the cameras.
http://helmetcameracentral.comI really like the Drifter HD170's radio remote feature, particularly for mounting to a strut. Seems like it would be a lot more reliable than an IR remote.
