Updating Your Personal Info on Blue Plastic Pilot's License?

Ever update weight, hair color, and other personal information on your Blue Plastic Pllot's License Card ?

I always wondered whether folks can personally update the personal information that appears on the blue plastic cards that are now issued. Does an AME have to do that ? A friend of mine who has been flying since the Age of the Dinosaurs now has white hair, weighs well...to be diplomatic let's just say ... "more" ..., and after getting his knee replacements, is going to get his Class III again and get back in the air. I think he is quite serious because he is piling a ton of money into his Cessna 310.

Anyway, I know you get a new card when upgrading for example to Commercial or ATP from a lower privilege level. But if not, does an AME have to send the info to FAA regarding weight gain or loss? Getting ramp checked in a Cessna 310 is rarely going to be an issue re a pilot's weight, but stuffing said pilot and gear into an LSA might be a different story.

The medical has nothing to do with the certificate itself. But, you can order a replacement certificate at any time from Oklahoma City.

Amazing how much faster Google is...... :D

I'm not sure I clearly explained the question.

I specifically want to know how one can change the personal physical information as supplied on an earlier application, presumably buy the AME. My question is not so much strictly about replacement, but about editing and updating the existing information on record. Does this in fact requires the official AOK and intervention of an AME, or if I can just directly request a replacement and supply the updated information myself. MTV, you are probably right that personal physical info likely has nothing to do with the medical and that no AME will be needed.

I'll call the local FSDO or FAA in OKC next week to see what's up.

I answered your question. He needs to log on to the site I gave the link to. He'll have to provide a copy of a photo ID to verify his identity. Once on that site, he can update his information.

Again, the information on the medical has nothing to do with the pilot certificate, and changes there, including address, will not show up on your pilot certificate. Which is why the FAA says that if you change address, you must go to the site I linked to change your address. Just taking a new medical does NOT fulfill the requirement to update your pilot certificate information.

Tell him to go to that link, log on and change things. Or, tell him to write a letter to the certification branch, whose address is given on that link as well.

Ahhh..okay thanks. I was not reading it right. I got it now.

I appreciate the follow up. I think my head set is too tight; no blood flow to the brain. #-o

Yeah, he's a really nice guy, a great pilot, and a lawyer. ( I included that in case Cary might be reading this :) ). He has his Instrument, 3000+ hours, and quit flying his Cessna 210 about 15 years ago. He recently acquired a Cessna 310, and I guess has the itch to get back in the air again.

Anyway, that was very helpful info MTV. If I ever need to do the same re any updates I'll be all set.

Re: Updating Your Personal Info on Blue Plastic Pilot's Lice

This came up a bunch at the University. The FAA requires you notify them when you change addresses. In that case, they don't issue a new certificate....the new address just goes in their database.

So, you can tell your friend that the FAA obviously doesn't give a hoot if the information on his certificate is accurate or not.....as long as the information in their database is accurate. For identification purposes, they are going to rely on his photo ID anyway. Go figure.

That said, if he has changed addresses from the one the FAA has on file, he needs to submit a change of address notice to the FAA ASAP, and I would NOT mention exactly when he moved....there is a time limit. Just submit the change of address, and move on.

Good for him for wanting to saddle up again. Hopefully he'll get some good refresher training and really enjoy that 310.
