Used Sporty’s SP200 on Craigs List - Worth Buying? Too Old?
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.

I spotted a used Sporty’s SP200 transceiver on local Craigslist. Not sure if such a unit is worth buying, or whether to wait for a more modern used Icom, SP400, or other hand held unit to pop up. I'm in no rush.
Questions:
Is the SP200 a little too dated in 2015 feature-wise and functionally?
If not, what is a decent price for such a unit? Includes the battery pack, but not the rechargeable one.

I have one and still use it to communicate in a "tow vehicle" to ground control for reposition missions. It works fine. I think it is about 16 to 18 years old.

@Zpilot,
Thanks for the feedback. The SP200 puts out about 1.5 watts AM mode. Some of the Yaesu/Vertex models are at 4 to 5 watts , also AM of course for aeronautical. That has me thinking ? Hmmm.??
I like the raw simplicity of the SP200. I am still wondering what a good price would be ? The Yaesu's run about $ 190 new. So a used old SP200 ???? $ 100 ?? maybe $80 ??? it has no rechargeable nicad pack. or charger plug if I were to get the accessory. Also no headset adapter cords.
Off thread: I just love that ACA Scout you have on floats in your profile. That and 8GCBC's profile image as well.

Thanks for the airplane complement!
I'd offer $50, and pay up to like $85.
I can't comment on the range of the handheld, but I think it would be adequate.
I have some battery corrosion in mine, but it is my fault. The radio sat unused for 10 or more years with the same batteries in it. I cleaned up the battery pack, and it seems to be working fine now.
Best of luck!
