The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) collaborates with public land managers such as the USFS and BLM to develop and maintain backcountry airfields located in remote areas. This collaboration helps ensure that recreational pilots will enjoy access to America's wilderness areas, while greatly reducing environmental impacts.

This weekend, RAF supporters spent a day repairing and maintaining assets at Rager Guard Station airfield in the Ochoco National Forest and Big Rock Flat airfield in the Umatilla National Forest. Both airfields are located in remote areas with significant wildlife populations.

The Recreational Aviation Foundation (the RAF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to preserve, improve and create airstrips for recreational access. The RAF was founded by a group of pilots who were concerned about the loss of backcountry strips. Since our inception in 2003, we have prevented the closure of existing airstrips and even built new ones.

Thank you, RAF! I've been into Rager and it's a pretty cool spot. I'm bringing a bike next time to do more exploring.

Big Rock Flat is in good condition. The grass is about 14-inches tall and still bumpy as always. Image

Thanks windknot! I was wondering if the windsock pole I built and installed in about 1985 was still there. That looks like it. :D

Yes, the pole is still functioning beautifully. We installed a new frame and windsock a couple years ago. Thanks for your efforts those many years ago!
