Utah Backcountry Pilots Fly-In Events (spring 12 update)

UBCP-

We'd like to up-date you on some back country events in the near future:

May 11 - 12 We invite you to Mineral Canyon to share your knowledge with a group of aviation students. Westminster College is culminating their mountain flying class by driving to and spending the night at Mineral Canyon. On Saturday, May 12, the students and instructors will be installing a windsock as a service project. Many of these students have never camped before and they have asked if some UBCP pilots could fly in and share some back country flying knowledge. They would like to see how the airplane is packed, what type of gear is used and some cooking skills. Come on down if you can and pass on some of your knowledge. This is a great opportunity to be an ambassador for back country flying.

May 18 - 19 Annual Ibex Fly-in. As is traditional, UBCP will be providing sausages and hamburgers along with cold drinks for lunch. Bring a pot luck item if you like, but not totally necessary. Announce intentions on 122.9 and be vigilant for traffic. This fly-in has about a 50% chance of success due to the fickle Utah spring weather. If there is much wind, the dry lake bed is not a particularly fun place to be - but on those beautiful spring days, Ibex is wonderful. For those new pilots, DO NOT confuse Ibex with Sevier Dry Lake. If you need additional information, contact UBCP through the web site or Steve Durtschi at [PHONE NUMBER REMOVED FOR PRIVACY - PLEASE CONTACT THROUGH WEBSITE].

Smiley Creek is scheduled for July 13 - 15, and the fall fly-in at Huntington will be Sept. 28 - 29. We will send notes out on these as they get a little closer.

We invite all pilots to participate. You need not be a UBCP member.

Sincerely,

UBCP Board

I plan on going down the week before for a family fly-in. We plan about a year in advance and happened to match the date with several pilots last year. They were mostly in RANs S-7's and such. I'll be there in my Stinson, and likely a pietenpol aircamper. We will camp on the north side of the island.
