Utah, Idaho, and Oregon Flying trip

I'm planing a 8-10 day flying adventure in my C-140. Flying From SoCal to Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and then back down California. I am looking for some opinions on the most interesting places to fly into.

I am planning on either camping near (<5 miles) or on the airport for most of the trip, However if there is some awesome attraction within driving range, I'm not against renting a car at one or two stops.

Thanks,

What would you recommend? I'm kinda open to anything at this point.

So far I have focused mainly on the southern half of the state.
Powers state and McKenzie bridge look nice, also Alvord Desert also appears to be a nice stop if the lake is dry.
I know I would like to spend a night at creator lake, unfortunately it appears to be one of the places I will have to rent a car.

I've been to Alvord several times. There is a hotsprings there right off the lakebed that is always nice for a good soak. The Steens are beautiful.

There will be a large number of planes and pilots at the Owyhee Res. State airport on the weekend of the 25th ( Memorial Day ) If you want to meet and greet some pilots from this area, it would be a good time. There are some from Madras, OR. and Hood River,OR. and One from NV. It is a good bunch, and last year we fixed the Owyhee Hilton Hotel up a little bit. Bob

Visit the Evergreen Air Museums in Mcminnville, OR as a great stop.

Another great stop is Cottage Grove Aiprot, Or, really friendly people.

I like Sunriver for the finer side of a fly in destination. You want to fish, float, bike, hike, shop, eat, gas, roller blade, golf, spa, mt bike.

For the get away from people, McKinze Bridge is 20 minutes away. http://www.airnav.com/airport/00S

Coast I like Nehalem Bay. http://www.airnav.com/airport/3S7 good camping 2 mile walk to town.

Pacific City. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KPFC 5 minute walk to beach, good restaurants.

Let me know when you come I'll meet you for coffee or just talk airplanes.

I'll stop by some time that weekend!

I flew in last Saturday and saw a beautiful 150 Super Cruiser from Bend, OR parked there. Didn't see the owners anywhere (I assumed they were out hiking or fishing down at the lake).

Re: Utah, Idaho, and Oregon Flying trip

I flew into a neat little place a couple weeks ago. It is called Lands Inn, and is located a little NE of Dayville, Or. The hosts are Tom and Carol Buce. The Lat. is 44* 35.57 N, Long. 119*33.8 W. If you google: Stinson Bobcat,LLC all the information about this place will show up. It is on the Seattle Sectional, and is close to the Kimberly VOR. I would think that you could camp there, or they have cabins for rent. It is a place with a great deal of charm and history. You might want to give it a try. Bob
