Utah to Oregon Coast

Flying to the Oregon Coast with an aim to fly the whole thing. Starting in Astoria and eventually ending up in Crescent City, CA.

Any local info, cool stops, best places to stay would be of help.

Thank you.

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

Nehalem Bay State Park has a runway and is good camping.
Tillimook has an air museum. Airplanes plus a WW2 blimp hangar that is historical and pretty awesome.
Pacific City has walk-to food/beverage, plus if Rob (OregonMaule) is there working on his beach house, he is easy to con into a jeep ride on the beach dunes, literally just a stones throw from the runway.
"The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, Evergreen Theater and Wings & Waves Waterpark are dedicated to inspiring and educating all of our guests. Our campus provides a range of accommodations for all.."-from their website. It is at McMinnville, a little ways inland, but well worth the stop. A lot of planes plus the one and only Spruce Goose.
I'll let the others carry the topic on from there....

What littlecub said. If you've got a half a day that Evergreen air and space Museum is incredible! It's only 15 or 20 minutes from Pacific city to the McMinnville airport which is where the museum is. If I am around I always like getting together with BCP brothers. Let me know what day you might be in the neighborhood. Even if I'm not here you can use the house and the facilities, it's not done but it has all of the necessities shower, electricity, toilet, hot water, microwave, coffee maker, beer in the fridge and a Jeep. PM me for key location.

Cheers...RobImage

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

What are you flying and what time of year?

Lucas Lodge on the Rogue River is a great overnight spot.

Bandon is also a nice spot to stop and stay, I believe they have a courtesy car.

If you need anything while near North Bend/Bandon, get in touch with me.

I am at Grants Pass (3S8) and about 40NM inland from Gold Beach. If you need anything. (Place to stay, hangar room, etc) Don't hesitate.

If you've gone that far, go a little further north and hit Copalis. Awesome beach airport. Lebanon (S30) is a great GA airport and usually has good gas prices.

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

Cool!

Lots of info and help. This is great. Thanks guys.
Rob, very generous of you. PM'd
A little more info about my details:
Kitfox w 912S. Dropping the big tire for the mini tire/wheelpant combo (too much temptation along the coastline).
Arriving Sept 8th in Nehalem Bay State for a couple days.
Wakonda Beach State for some camping.
Crescent City for a couple days of Redwoods.
Can divert to places like Lucas Lodge (hard for me to resist a new strip to land), but depends on the Mrs.

Last coast to fly to. Been to Atlantic and Gulf (including Barrier Islands). Can't believe I haven't done this trip yet.

What should I expect as far as weather (my main concern) for the second week in September?

Thanks for the offers and for some options if things change. I don't like to ask for help much, but it is very nice to know there are BCP friendlies all over just in case. If any of you are in the Eastern Utah area and need any help whatsoever, that's my briar patch. Happy to help anyway I can.

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

Sept-Oct is our best weather of the year on the coast, wind starts to lay down a bit and the fog is not so persistent........but, it is the Oregon Coast! Fog may still be an issue if it is still getting how inland in the valley. Fog until mid/late morning and it rolls back in in the evenings.

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

I'll be down to Pacific City tomorrow 10-11. lazflyn is in the area and we are going to meet tomorrow. If anyone else is around please stop by and say hi.

On second thought if it is clear I may hit Nehalem Bay on the way down. Low tide is a 1.5 at 9:36 there could be some sand with my name on it  =D> #-o [-X [-X [-X

Re: Utah to Oregon Coast

What a gorgeous day. It took a little bit longer for the fog to burn off than the weatherman thought. I filed an IFR flight plan to get out of Troutdale. Took my neighbor for a ride and landed on a couple of patches of sand.
