Valdez. Camping or hotel
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
Hi all. First time to Valdez. We will be on a 2 week camping / hotel / flying trip. Is camping an option during the show? If anyone has information for accommodation during the show please advise.
Thanks. Also any suggestions for stops between YVR north up the coast would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of people camp under the wing or on gravel next to tie downs. They have porta johns set up on runway also. Terminal has nice bathrooms and open at 0600 (I think). Fri and Sat night usually several groups hanging out until the weeee hours of morning. They do have shuttle bus into town pretty late also. If weather is good and you don't need a shower camping is great. I bring my 5th wheel so don't have to worry about hotels. I would call ahead if you want hotel just to make sure.

I have camped there many years and done the hotel thing. We rented an RV last year. RV was by far the best being able to comfortably stay at the airport.
Try hard to get a parking spot closer to the gravel or grassy area or else you will be stuck camping on asphalt under your wing with nothing to anchor a tent to. It tends to always be windy or raining in Valdez which leads to sucky asphalt camping.

The Mountain Sky Hotel has some rooms left and if you mention the fly in they have a special of $89 a night. The Totem Inn is building a brand new hotel and should be open then as well. We have a shuttle that will drive from town to the airport all day. The camping is as Denny describes. Snow is almost all gone this year.

We have always had the most fun tenting under our wing. The late night comradere is one of the best parts of the event. Unfortunately we will not be making it this year.

Is there RV parking near by the airport?
Not sure if I need to reserve something or not.

You can dry camp at the airport. Nice campgrounds downtown just not sure if they are open.

Eagles Rest and Bayside RV parks are open. There will be some RV parking inside the fence again this year first come first serve. There are no snow piles but it is muddy. People also just park in the airport parking lot too. There will be a shuttle running to town and back as well.
