Vertex VXA 710 Spirit handheld radio

Just bought one....I'm trying to figure it out. Has anyone used the computer connection to program this thing?

Help! Looks like a great handheld, but either I need to go back to college to figure it out, or maybe somebody has some practical experience with it.

I tried to enter 156.800 (marine band channel 16)....it didn't accept it. I think it only accepts aviation, BRS (business radio service) and VOR frequencies.

Darn. Why is it so hard to get a combined aviation and marine handset?

Yay! I got a few channels programed....and I didn't have to return to college to figure it out after all. Just download (from Vertex) interface software, buy a RS232- USB adapter, two other connector cables (available for purchase at Skygeek). Then downloaded some help file opening program from Windows, then gave it a go. A few hours of dinking around with it and I managed to program a few approach and tower frequencies. Looks like a great radio, definitely built tough, waterproof too...but it does require some time to get figured out.

I have had one for 3 yrs, and still cant figure it out. The factory isnt any help either. I actually felt I knew more than the factory help desk (which is real scary). All I know is that I'm in big trouble if I have to use it fast and cant get to the manual.
