Vgs on Aeronca Sedan, experience?

When I put micro VGs on a maule M5 made a huge difference, however on Cessna 206 it made no difference at all.

Does anybody have experience putting VG's on in Aeronca sedan? I am hesitant to just go and do it because of the pain in the ass with the wing covers.

I don't have experience with VGs on a Sedan. That said, the Sedan performs so well, I'm not sure there's much improvement available.....

I put VGs on my old 170B and really regretted it, largely due to wing covers.....so I feel your pain. I do know guys who've "installed" VGs using double sided carpet tape to test them out, before gluing them on. Wish I'd done that with the 170.

Sorry I can't offer any better guidance.

I know on a Champ/Citabria they sure help. Not sure if the Sedan wing is the same, but I think it's very similar.

I was going to post the same experience as A1skinner. I had them on a Champ and it was extremely stable and you could put the stick in your lap and it would just mush along. Stay on the rudders and it wouldn't stall.

The Sedan uses the 4412 wing, right? Same planform as the Luscombe 8 series. Most guys say that VGs help very little on a Luscombe. Those that say VGs do help don’t report a big enough change that would warrant dealing with the hassle of having them IMO.

Funny sensation huh? The sedan does that too even without the vgs.

Re: Vgs on Aeronca Sedan, experience?

Sorry to resurrect an older discussion but I had been contemplating VGs on our Sedan. I’m mostly curious if the VGs placed on the horizontal stab provide any benefit in pitch authority. We have a 180hp with the big Hartzell on it and when the power comes off the pitch authority is tricky, requiring full nose up trim to be trimmed on speed causing possible go arounds to be quite the handful for an experienced pilot like myself, more so for my spouse who is a much smaller person. I’d like to find a way to improve that pitch balance that isn’t a costly composite prop, though that is tempting too :-k

Burl Rogers in Anchorage is the expert on Sedans….and he owns the type certificate.

I’d call him.
