Video: Green River Lakes Flight (Updated Video)

One of the most magical flights I've ever had.

Best viewed in HD/full screen.

Re: Video: Green River Lakes Flight

Thanks, guys. Glad you enjoyed. You can imagine how fun it was to fly it... =P~

Careful what you wish for, Mike--I still have enough other pretty footage that I may have no choice but to make another! In addition, I envision plenty more sunrise scouting trips up there this summer, so I'll probably end up with more footage than I know what to do with. It's a nice problem to have!

I'm trying to be a little more disciplined and make shorter videos that are tighter and easier to watch. After flights like these, though, it all looks so pretty to me that I hate to cut anything out. #-o

That was otherworldly, Darin. You must have a good alarm clock.

I think the length was perfect. I recall that this is where you suggested I try to get Ben to fly. I understand now.

Re: Video: Green River Lakes Flight

That's the place, Zane. Takes me about an hour to get there direct over the big rocks. I usually try to be wheels up by 0500 so I can be out of the mountains before the air starts to heat up. It's my favorite place in Wyoming.

The funny thing about this video is that the really pretty flight happened the day before. The air was smooth as glass and the light was perfect all morning. I flew for 3 hours up there, thinking "this is the best video I've ever captured." I got home and none of my cameras worked. I was so depressed I decided I had no choice but to go back the next morning. The air and light actually weren't nearly as good at the lakes on the second day, but this mystical shroud of fog was my reward for going back. I've never experienced anything quite like it.

I think I saw some hobbits scurrying for cover down there in that valley. 8)

Re: Video: Green River Lakes Flight

Very cool. Hey, I'm going to be over that direction in a few weeks. Would you mind PMing me the lat/lon of that area? I'm hoping to do some aerial sightseeing while Dee is hammering out an ultra marathon.

Re: Video: Green River Lakes Flight

I'm not smart enough to do lat/long, but here's the Google Earth link to Green River Lakes. It's at the top end of the Wind River Range, north of Pinedale. Square Top sits at the southern end of the two lakes, and is the gateway into the Winds from the north.

Beautiful video RP. I may have to come down and chase you around that area if you keep posting videos like this.

Exactly, Cam. I'm glad somebody finally understands the burdens I'm willing to endure for my friends!

A1, I'd love to have you come down and help me share the load of this beautiful flying I'm...having...to do.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Wow, that is one of the best videos I've seen. What a great place to be at the right time too.

Re: Video: Green River Lakes Flight

I didn't think of the Shire, but while I was flying it did occur to me that this might be the closest I ever come to getting to experience flying in NZ!

I'm sure this fog isn't an uncommon occurrence, but it's the first time I've seen it like that in 20 years of going up there. It was amazing to experience it from the air, and with a working camera no less!

Here's an extended and re-edited version of the video with some additional footage. Call it the "Extended Director's Cut," I guess. #-o
