??? Video gurus

I been tryin to get my plane set up do to videos. I think I got my recorder and camera setuppretty good. I'll find out tomorrow. :D Now, I would like to get voice onto the video. I have a wire with a pickup on it. Can I change the end an plug it into my music input on the intercom and have it record the active comm radio and my voice(w/o keying the mike)?

Thanks Gary

Re: ??? Video gurus

You need to find the OUTput from your audio panel. I only have a portable intercom, but it has a recorder output that outs any conversation as long as the squelch is broken. I use this in conjunction with the audio input to use my cell phone. The result is pretty good, so I think your video recorder input connected to the panel's output would work great.

I just reread your post and see your mention of a "pickup". Is this a microphone? If so, the output from an audio panel will be too high for a mic input and cause distortion. I would look to see if your recorder has a line level audio input. Many do.

I use one called Cyberlink PowerDirector. It's fairly easy to use, you can do all the voice/music track editing, and has a video stabilization feature that works really well if you have shaky video.

Happy New Year!

Re: ??? Video gurus

Hi Gary

Not a Guru myself. When we needed to document some test flights---the test pilot had a small pickup that he put under the earphone of the headset. It would simply pickup the sidetone from any intercom transmission and radio communication. Might be enough to get you by until you find a better solution.

Hey Mark

Thanks

One of things I am trying to get away from is havin wires run all over. I am hoping to be able to just cut the pickup off the wire and put a jack on it and plug it into the intercom.

I'll probably try the setup that Em posted earlier. But after all the talkin on the radio today, I maybe better off just adding comments when I edit the videos :D

Re: ??? Video gurus

Gary, I picked up one of these off ebay dirt cheap. http://www.sigtronics.com/air/spo.html The model I have is SPO-22 two place. The reason I got it was to dump XM music into my intercom. I just plugged it into an open jack in my current system and used a 3.5mm cable to go from my GPS to the SPO-22's input. The cool thing is that it also has an output that I can dump to my camera and record voice or the music that is playing.

Re: ??? Video gurus

Gary, windows has a free editing program called movie maker, and it works awesome, try editing your video footage with it, it will control sound too, between music and the sound that is on the video. And you can add photos to your video too, and pan in or out on them etc.

I just added a video on youtube, that was done on windows movie maker.. search popsdory and the video was "one more super cub strip".
