W/B “What’s in your cabin”?

QUESTION #1). Choose one answer A, B, C or E —

You decided to take a flight (R44 Cadet) with a friend and take a few pictures over a small coastal town. It’s hot today and removing the doors seems like a good idea. What steps should you take in order to comply with acceptable standards for weight and balance:

A) Your last CFI never did a full weight and balance when she removed the doors and really never discussed the flight profile. The R44 handled fine so doors off is considered a negligible W/B for most casual flights.

B) Always have a complete W/B for the particular flight on paper in case you get “Ramped” by a law enforcement officer.

C). Doors off require a Form 337 on ALL FLIGHTs which one copy must be in the aircraft at all times.

E) None of the above. Please read R44 Cadet Pilot’s Operating Handbook

If you know your weight and balance ruff limits you can ensure you are within limits, that will satisfy the actual regs, shy of them deciding to Trent Palmer you

However in the age of smart phones it takes half a second to calculate all of this stuff

Did all my training in 22s never seeing a door on them, later flew tours in Raven IIs where we would normally have the doors on with AC running.

We’d pull doors on reque$t, or for photo work.

Biggest issue with the doors is making sure everything in the ship is secure and won’t end up in the TR, install and removal of the somewhat awkward and very expensive and delicate doors and not loosing the pin & rings for them

Keep it under 100 knots, remember that it is going to be colder than you expect.

During the safety course the presenter mentioned the speed thing and asked why, lots of folks had their brains in 4X4 low trying to vastly over think it

“Uhh because it’ll hurt if you put you arm out into the relative wind at that speed?”

R44 Cadet POH — You might be asked one day what are the three flight profiles which limit KIAS to 100 maximum?
