Wakonda Beach State airport

I saw Zane's picture of Wakonda Beach, R33, and it piqued my interest. I wanted to fly on Saturday afternoon, it's supposed to be a cooker...

My 172 has a 6x6 nosewheel and 8x6 mains. I have landed on grass several times in it and the Cub I am getting TW training in.

Anyone have a PIREP for 2008?

When Rob and I dropped in there back in April, there was some standing water along the sides of the strip, but the strip itself was dry. I bet it's pretty nice now.

The surface at Wakonda is really smooth, I think any plane with tiny tires would do fine.

The remarks on the strip say to land north, and depart south. There's a slight downward grade from north to south, with a little hill straight off the end. Depending on wind, I think a south departure with a right turnout before the hill is the way to go. When we were there, the wind was probably 5-6 kts out of the north, so Rob took off to the north, but then he prob could have taken off across the runway too with the IO-520. :)
