Wanted: Good Oregon Pitstop

Hey everyone,

Just looking for some advice. I'm headed to the San Juan Islands in a few weeks from Northern UT and know that I'll probably need a pitstop in eastern/central Oregon to feed the kids and maybe even our ride. It looks like Martin near Walla Walla has the best gas price around. I'm looking for a good airport with a pilot lounge or a shaded picnic table and maybe a courtesy car.

Anyway, I've not spent much time in that area so I thought I'd see if any of you know of a great GA airport to drop into.

Thanks,
Cory

Joseph!! http://airnav.com/airport/KJSY

I'm sure you can find a way to town. Only about 1 mile from the airport.

I'd highly recommend the Mountain Air Cafe: http://www.eoni.com/~mtnair/

Joseph, OR is a neat little town with lot's of great shops and art gallery's. Lot's of cool bronze art through downtown on main street.

Hermiston OR. is a pretty good spot. They say their 100LL is $4.45 now. They have a courtesy car and a nice FBO. Not to sure about the picnic table. It is in the vicinity of WAlla Walla. WA. Identifier is KHRI.

I would recommend either Burns or Pendleton. Both have courtesy cars available. Burns has the added benefit of the possiblity of saying hi to Bub. Burns also has a nice Mexican restaurant in town with the owner originally from La Paz, Baja. At Pendleton the FBO has a car and a very nice restaurant is Stetson's.

Flying from Lopez Island to Johnson Creek, my favorite stop is Martin in Walla Walla, WA. They have good gas prices, it feels like an old time airport. They have a grass runway option for landing and love people to use it. I've camped on the grass (not the runway), overnight which cost $3.00. It is about a mile walk to a Mexican Restrauant and the airport manager gave us a ride last time.

Martin in Walla Walla,

If you need a hotel, the Holiday Inn Express will pick you up and drop you off at Martin. Just be sure to remind them it is the closer airport not the commercial airport.

I just drove through Madras two days ago going from Mt. Hood to where we parked the plane in Bend. Seems like a nice town in a beautiful area.

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate the advice and offers. Our plans might be changing a bit. We might decide to roll the San Juans into our trip next year and just go do some more ID/MT flying instead. Either way, it will be great flying.
