Water Purification for Field Camp Use

Well, I am consulting on a mining project in Sonora Mexico. Cool spot on the Yaqui river about 180 clicks east of Hermosillo. Even though I have a strip 5 clicks from the camp, the governo di Mexico has forbidden all private traffic from it, due to narcos. So a lengthy drive from Hermosillo airport is in order. Anyhow, the camp does not have a water purifier, they dive to a village nearby, right nearby, about 1.2 hours, to get pure water.

So my question is…anybody know of a decent camp water purification system that can do about 10-15 gallons per day? When I sort on the web all I get is kitchen tap water units and backpacking tiny pump thingies. In Africa we used stone filter systems, slow but steady. Not available on this side of the pond.

Might be overkill, but did you check these out? I've found the owner to be knowledgeable and helpful. The small units will fit in a C-206, BTW.

These are simpler, camp-size units, commonly used by raft outfitters, etc.

For the daily drinking water needs, there's Steripens. I've had good results with those in Africa.

Check out the stuff from Sawyer: http://www.sawyer.com

You'd probably want the 5-gallon bucket adapter kit.

Really reasonable and seems to work really well. I've recently replaced my trusty but heavy MSR water filter with the Sawyer mini for backpacking. 2oz! And only $20.
