weighing options
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I am in a partnership with 182B but am thinking of opting out. If I opt out I will either end up with the plane or not. If not then I will be buying another plane.
Been thinking of lots of options if I have to get a new plane. Kind of narrowed it down to either a Maule or a Stinson. If a Stinson it would have to be a 108-3 cus 40 gallons fuel is just to little when heading for Baja.
My question in this post for the Maule folks is this. Seems that an M-4 with 220 Franklin and a M-5 with an IO-360 are pretty close in price. All other things being equal, which on do you guys think is the best, the M4-220 or the M5-210
A Cessna 170 180HP is way too much money.

John, If you don't mind posting a synopses of your phone call with Tim, I'd be interested. I will be looking to buy next year, I've pretty well decided on the Maule for me as well. The M4 & M5 seem to fit my bill overall, the opinion I have formed is they are close but the M5 is a bit more capable.
I'd love to get input from owners of both of these planes (M4 & M5) to assist me in my research.
Thanks

The m-5 235 would also be a great choice (esp. for baja). The auto gas stc would pay for the purchase price difference quickly.

if anybody asks, we played poker...
While you are looking, don't forget the M6. M-5 fuselage, but with the long wing of the m7. Pretty much ties you to the 235 though, I don't think many 180's were made.

Give me a call tuesday or wednesday and we can talk some. Pros and cons from a IO-360 owner if you want.
John
I wouldn't mind hearing the pros and cons too, perhaps add them to this post?
