Well I found something cool!

Hope its okay to link this.

It really helps you visualize what is taking place. Anymore, I use wind maps to predict the weather. Radar is great for knowing where the storms cells are and how strong they are, but if you watch the wind maps, they can tell you where, why, and possibly when.

May not help much in the mountains, though, as getting fine detail there is hard because...well, mountains.

Anyway, just another tool for the WX toolbox. YOU CAN'T HAVE TOO MANY OF THOSE!

Edit: Click the Earth tab to change altitude, time, etc.

Very cool. I never really trusted the little arrows with barbs on the charts.

That is awesome. Wish I had seen it before I sailed across the Pacific - it all makes sense now.

Nice.

I've been using an App called Storm for iPhone. It has that type of wind depiction also. I agree this is a fantastic addition to our flight planning tool kit.

I use:

windy.com

It has the capability to show winds at a variety of levels in the atmosphere (you can pick your altitude on the right side of the chart). Same data set, I'm sure, but more detail for flying.

That's a good one, too.
